IntroductionNumishare is an open source project hosted by Google Code for the creation, management, and dissemination of numismatic data online. Numishare is an evolution of the University of Virginia Art Museum Numismatic Collection website. The open source software was first adopted by the Kittredge Numismatic Foundation, which contributed financially to its development, and is now maintained by the American Numismatic Society. The topics discussed will cover the general Numishare distribution, the American Numismatic Society's adaptation of the software, and other issues concerning the sharing of numismatic data.
ArchitectureNumishare's codebase is open source, and is built upon a modularized set of open source applications that run within Apache Tomcat, including:
- Cocoon: delivery of HTML, XML Linked data (RDF, Atom)
- Solr: Advanced search index based on Apache Lucene which provides faceted browsing
- Orbeon: Enterprise-level server-side XForms processor
- eXist: XML datastore
